Cast basalt products are produced in the shaft melt furnaces and then cast at a temperature of 1200°C in metal or sand moulds. After solidification the casts are removed out of moulds and put into running cooling furnaces. Cast Basalt possesses unique properties such as wear resistance, temperature resistance and corrosion resistance.
WEAR RESISTANCE: Cast Basalt shows excellent wear resistance. The
wear resistance of cast basalt is reported to be 50 time common steel and 3 times chromium steel.
CORROSION RESISTANCE: Cast Basalt has good resistance against Acid, Alkaline and Acid medium.
COEFICIENT OF FRICTION: Cast Basalt possesses very low coefficient of friction of 0.021 which is 20 to 30 times lower than steel.
HIGH TEMPERATURE RESISTANCE: Cast Basalt exhibits high temperature resistance and can be used for applications with exposure temperatures up to 450 deg C
LIFE: Life of basalt lined pipe is estimated to be 7 to 10 times that of Cast
Iron, and 3 to 4 times that of Ni-hard Steel.
The cast basalt products are mainly applied to the pipe lines for sand, coal ash, fine slag slurry, tar sand slurry, lime, acid, alkaline material. Cast Basalt used for lining for storage bins & silos for coke, ore, lime, cement, coal, dust, slurry, where extreme abrasive atmosphere is expected.
